Joaquin jubilant after Milan winner

Winger Joaquin Sanchez has said Malaga were 'much the better side' after his goal gave the Andalusians victory over Milan.

For the second time in five days at La Rosaleda Joaquin missed a penalty then went on to score the winning goal. Los Boquerones are now five points clear of the Italian giants at the top of Group C, a remarkable return for their first ever Champions League campaign.

“It was a tough game,” the 31-year-old stated in a TV interview. “But we were much the better team, we went for the win from the start.

“The team gave everything, we delivered for our fans.”

The former Spain international doesn't expect to be hitting a penalty again any time soon after blazing over from the the spot just before half time.

"If the Coach picks me I'll hit one again, but having failed twice…I don't think there will be a third time.

"In the summer we woke up with uncertainty every morning, and look now, we are a force of constant commitment and improvement. This team deserves it."

Club owner Abdullah Al Thani, a controversial figure given his withdrawal of funding over the summer, was in attendance and also spoke to journalists.

“I congratulate the fans, the players and Coach. We have invested and will continue doing so, of course there's a future.”
