Casillas: Not Pepe’s fault

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas refused to blame teammate Pepe for Real Madrid's Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund.

The Portuguese defender's wayward pass allowed Robert Lewandowski to give the German champions the lead shortly before half time in the top of the table Group D clash.

Cristiano Ronaldo levelled soon after but, after a unconvincing punch by Casillas, Marcel Schmelzer drilled in a second half winner for Jurgen Klopp's men.

“Well the truth is that was an unfortunate move for us,” said the shot stopper in an Canal Plus interview.

“Pepe's pass lost us the goal but I do not think you can judge him for that. I think he played a superb game. We were very good in defence and worked to to defend their set pieces. They exploited our left wing.”

Casillas is already looking forward to wrestling back supremacy of the Group in the return fixture in Madrid.

“It is true that the second leg will be very important. It is vital to get three points and return to top spot in the group.”
