Real Madrid could be making a surprise move for Ashley Cole in January, as the Chelsea full-back continues to stall on a new contract.
The England left-back is reported in the English media today as having yet to sign an extension to his current contract, which otherwise expires next summer.
The Daily Mirror have alleged that Jose Mourinho’s previous interest in Cole, combined with Marcelo’s long-term injury and doubts over Fabio Coentrao’s reliability, will see Los Merengues make a move this winter for the 31-year-old.
Cole, who can talk to other clubs from January about a possible Bosman transfer next summer, is said to be attainable for as little as €7.3m. Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Milan and Anzhi are all also reported to be tracking the Champions League winner.
