Roberto Carlos in Madrid return?

According to AS, Real Madrid are contemplating a sensational return to the Santiago Bernabeu for Roberto Carlos.

Los Blancos’ boss Jose Mourinho has a major problem at left-back after both Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao were ruled out with injury for three months and four weeks respectively.

It has forced the Portuguese to consider his options of finding a replacement and Roberto Carlos, who retired from football in the summer and now acts as assistant Coach at Anzhi Makhachkala, has not been ruled out.

The 39-year-old, who played just a handful of games in the Russian League last season, is believed to still be in good physical shape and would be free to join Mourinho’s squad immediately.

The Brazilian international spent 11 years with Real between 1996 and 2007, winning four La Liga titles, three Champions League trophies, three Supercopas de Espana, two Intercontinental Cups and a UEFA Super Cup.

The reports maintains that if the player did make an emotional return to the club it would only be a temporary arrangement, with Mourinho himself believed to be behind the initiative.
