Ozil: I’m progressing well

Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil has again saluted Jose Mourinho, and revealed his difficulties with speaking Spanish.

The German midfielder of Turkish descent is celebrating his 24th birthday whilst on international duty.

“One of my goals was to play under Mourinho and I've done that,”he commented in an interview with Marca, before likening Mou to Germany Coach Joachim Low.

“Both of them want me to play to the best of my ability, to give my all on the pitch. Each of them tries to exploit my talent in their own way, but basically its all football and I always go out with more or less the same idea on how to play. I'm only 24 and I think I'm progressing well.

“There's always pressure in football, no matter who you're playing against. It's an honour to be with Real Madrid and Germany, two great teams.”

Ozil is enjoying his third season in Spain but admits ordering in restaurants can still be a challenge.

“I already know Spanish, my problem is that you speak Spanish very quickly. When I go to a restaurant I don't know what to do. I tell the waiter: 'Slow down please.' But then he repeats it at the same speed!”

The former Werder Bremen creator believes elements from both German and Turkish culture have helped shape his personality.

“I was born in Germany and decided to play with this national team, but I don't forget where my ancestors come from. I think I've taken my discipline from Germany, and my creativity from the Turks.”
