Atletico ask for Silvestre

Tuttomercatoweb claims Atletico Madrid have enquired about Inter central defender Matias Silvestre’s availability.

The Argentine [pictured, left] was on Los Rojiblancos’ radar last summer when he was with Palermo and possesses an Italian passport.

However, he eventually opted for a €2m loan move to Inter, with the Serie A giants agreeing to pay €6m if they decide to take up their option to buy the player over the next three years.

Atletico subsequently secured the services of Cata Diaz from Getafe, yet boss Diego Simeone is keeping a keen eye on Silvestre’s situation as he is a known admirer from when the pair were together at Catania.

Silvestre, 28, began the season in Inter’s starting line-up under boss Andrea Stramaccioni but quickly lost his place to Brazilian Juan, who has since been preferred as Andrea Ranocchia’s regular partner in the centre of the Inter defence.

For now, Simeone is well covered for centre-backs with Joao Miranda, Diego Godin, Cata Diaz and Jorge Pulido, yet if any of them were to depart the Vicente Calderon in January it could open the door for Silvestre.
