Alves to miss Celtic clash

Barcelona defender Dani Alves will miss the Champions League clash with Celtic on October 23 with a hamstring injury, reports UEFA.com.

The Brazilian full-back suffered the problem in the 28th minute of the clash with Real Madrid at the Camp Nou on Sunday, having to be replaced by Martin Montoya for the remainder of the 2-2 draw.

Alves was subsequently assessed by club doctors who confirmed that he will be ruled out of action for a period of around three weeks.

It is a further blow to Barca boss Tito Vilanova who has recently lost his captain Carles Puyol with an elbow injury and also has Gerard Pique sidelined with an ankle complaint.

“Alves will be some days injured so will stay with us to recover and will not join up with his national team,” confirmed Vilanova at the post-match Press conference.
