Rayo extend Depor’s winless run

Rayo Vallecano bounced back from disappointment last weekend to defeat Deportivo on Saturday afternoon.

Rayo began the game in the ascent and looked to be heading for a comfortable answer to last weekend’s 6-1 defeat at Real Valladolid, thanks to goals from Piti and Jose Carlos.

However, Pizzi’s penalty kick – the fourth conceded by Rayo at Vallecas this season alone – saw the teams go in at the break at a more even 2-1 scoreline.

Depor came out in search of an equaliser in the second period, just as Rayo pressed at the other end, but loose defending from both teams was matched by hesitant finishing.

Ultimately the home side ran out the victors, at the same time stretching Deportivo’s search for a League win to six matches.
