Athletic Bilbao captain Carlos Gurpegui says his team need to lift themselves after the 2-0 away loss to Real Sociedad.
Bilbao have won just once this season in the opening six games and goals from Antoine Griezmann and Carlos Vela means they are now languishing in the lower reaches of the table following the Basque derby.
It is a far cry from last term and Gurpegui feels there needs to be more effort shown from Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
“I thought that Real were more intense, more into the game, and after Fernando Amorebieta was sent off we were unable to react,” he told a Press conference.
“We went into this game with a lot of hope and were hoping this could have kick-started our season, but unfortunately it was not to be.
“You look at the table and see things are not going so well so we need to lift ourselves and produce more effort.
“Our next game is against Osasuna and both teams are now very needy, so it’s going to be tough,” he added.
