Pep Guardiola could be tempted by the prospect of coaching in Italy, according to one of his former bosses.

Carlo Mazzone, who worked with Guardiola between 2001 and 2003 at Brescia, has hinted that the 41-year-old could make a return to the peninsula, this time as a Coach at one of Serie A's top clubs.

“Pep phoned me and said he would come and see me soon,” Mazzone told Italian newspaper Il Sussidiario. “I asked if he would visit as a tourist or Coach of an Italian team – he said both.

“Next year, Pep could take charge of Inter or AC Milan, I do not know.”

Guardiola took a year's break at the end of last season and is now living in New York, but has said he will return to a dugout next summer.
