Zidane headbutt immortalised

Zinedine Zidane’s infamous final act as a professional footballer has been immortalised in the form of a work of art.

The former Real Madrid man was sent off for France in the 2006 World Cup Final, his last game before retiring, for headbutting Italy defender Marco Materazzi in the chest.

The two players’ memorable moment has now been captured in sculptural form, with a five-metre high statue being unveiled today.

The statue is by Algerian-born artist Adel Abdessemed and has been placed on public display in the French capital of Paris, in front of the Centre Pompidou modern art museum.
