Pizzi: Depor could win at Real

Striker Pizzi believes that Getafe and Sevilla’s examples this season show that his Deportivo could beat Real Madrid this weekend.

The Portuguese and his Galician team travel to the capital this weekend to face the defending League champions sharing mid-table with them.

“Getafe and Sevilla, who have beaten Real Madrid, help us to know that we too can win,” declared Pizzi, reflecting a confidence to reporters.

“We have to approach the game with enthusiasm and excitement. A draw at the Bernabeu is good for any team, but our intention in every game is to win.

“For every player facing Real is a special game, whilst it is always significant and good to play against compatriots and especially Cristiano [Ronaldo] and Fabio [Coentrao], they are very good and are doing well in Madrid, but they are not friends. We have to play well and win.”

Even with the ambition, Pizzi is under no illusions as to what faces the team on the Sunday.

“It is difficult to stop Cristiano, he is a great player who does everything well. We must try to stop him by everyone helping out, but Madrid are more than just Cristiano. They have other good players and we will try to stop them too.

“We know it will be a difficult game, that Real Madrid are a great team, but if things go well then we always score.

“This is a different game in which we will all have to be together, but we will try to have possession, because that is our philosophy.

“Real have not started the League well, they are already eight points behind their great rivals and absolutely have to win, but we are not thinking about that, only on playing our game, when we have the ball, to defend all together and to break out on the counter so as to hurt them.”
