Malaga prepare Isco renewal

Malaga have confirmed that they are working on extending attacking midfielder Isco’s contract at La Rosaleda.

The youngster, who was brought to the club from Valencia for €6m last summer, has grown into a prominent role for the team early this season.

Reports last week suggested that the club had turned down more than one offer for the player, who currently has a €21m buyout clause in his contract.

Perhaps with this in mind, sporting director Mario Husillos has confirmed publicly that the club intend to improve and extend his current deal.

“We will chat with him as soon as possible,” Husillos told Radio Marca today.

“We know his potential, his growth and in the Champions League his profile has grown. He is a fantastic player.

“There have been no calls from Russia for him. Tottenham tried to sign him before the market closed. He remains ours and with the clause, no-one has activated that.”

The official sees no reason for Isco to want a move elsewhere.

“He is playing football in his home country at a club that suits his style. He has tremendous potential and room for growth that could lead to him becoming a Spanish international. We believe that the best place for him to do that is Malaga. We want to enjoy him for many years without impeding his growth.”

Husillos insisted that all final decisions on transfers at the Andalusian club are made by Coach Manuel Pellegrini.

“The person leading this whole institution is Pellegrini. It sounds obvious but it's true. We try to collaborate as much as possible, and I give him options, but the final choice is his.”
