Wolfsburg back in for Benat

Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg are set to make a fresh offer for Real Betis midfielder Benat Etxeberria, according to AS.

The Germans were quoted a fee of €15m when they enquired about the 25-year-old [pictured, right] in the summer but the Andalusians are in no mood to sell the Basque-born player.

Director of football Vlada Stosic arrived back from holiday this week and will attempt to convince Benat his future lies at the Benito Villamarin with the offer of a contract extension and a pay rise.

Benat’s current agreement with Los Beticos expires in June 2014 and it is understood Stosic will offer him a further two years and a salary of around €1m per season, making him the highest paid player at the club.

However, Wolfsburg  are believed to have offered him double that amount and their offer is still on the table if Benat agrees to a move in the next transfer window.

Their Coach Felix Magath is a known admirer of the former Athletic Bilbao man and has sent his spies to recent Betis games to check on Benat, and with his team having made a fairly inauspicious start to the season seems certain to step up his efforts to land the player.
