Real-Man City most watched ‘ever’

Tuesday night’s Group D clash between Real Madrid and Manchester City was apparently the most watched opening Champions League fixture ever.

An average audience figure of 7,005,000 was recorded by RTVE as tuning in for the game, in which Jose Mourinho’s side came from 2-1 down with four minutes to play to win 3-2.

That was a record audience in Spain for an opening Champions League match and a television audience share of 39.5 per cent.

Just after Cristiano Ronaldo’s late winner, that share peaked at almost 50 per cent, when as many as 10,089,000 people in Spain tuned in to follow proceedings.
