Barcelona striker Lionel Messi feels his team’s display in the 3-2 Champions League victory over Spartak Moscow is the way to glory.
Asked if he wanted to surpass his personal records from last season, Messi was adamant that it was the team that should come first.
“It is not my objective to overcome records. What we want is to try and win this competition and this is the way to do it,” he told Canal Plus at the end of the game.
Messi admitted it had not been an easy night for La Blaugrana and it had been difficult, whilst going on to praise the Russians’ attacking potential.
“They are very fast and strong and come out well on the counter-attack.
“It was a very tough game and they got everyone behind the ball so there was no space, but I’m satisfied because we kept on probing and managed to reverse the situation,” he added.
