Madrid deserved it says Butragueno

Real Madrid’s director of institutional relations Emilio Butragueno said the Spanish champions deserved their win over Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho’s men have had a poor start to the La Liga season but former Madrid player Butragueno warned they are going to get better following the 3-2 success over City.

“This is the level that we can play at. For me it would have been an undeserved loss because football was being unfair.

“It was a good game with an ending that will be remembered for a long time,” he told TVE cameras afterwards.

“We knew it would be difficult because they are very strong up front and will be fighting to win the Champions League, although I can’t understand how we did not score before the break.

“Football can sometimes be cruel but we showed courage.”

Butragueno also declared himself happy with the part played in proceedings by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It was a happy night for all. Cristiano had a great game and deserved it,” he concluded.
