Saviola: My destiny was Malaga

Javier Saviola believes he was destined to play for Malaga after his loan signing from Benfica on transfer deadline day.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid man made an immediate impact at La Rosaleda, scoring the opening goal in the 3-1 win over Levante and brilliantly setting up Joaquin Sanchez for the second, and feels it was fate he eventually arrived at the Costa del Sol club.

“There was something in my head that told me I had to come here and that it was my destiny,” Saviola told Diario Sur.

“Things could not have gone better on my debut and I wasn’t expecting anything like this after all the problems the club has gone through, but I know I’ve joined a very united squad.

“Technically this team is very good with some quality players and we have a Coach who has a football philosophy we must be thankful for as he does not put the emphasis on physical domination.

“I am now content and motivated. I promise I am going to enjoy myself here and make the Malaga fans really happy,” he added.
