Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has said loyalty to Atletico Madrid is the reason he turned down Real Madrid in 2011.
The Argentine international confessed in an interview with English publication The Sun that he was close to joining Los Blancos last year before heading to Manchester instead.
“I had great times at Atletico, and could not betray them by signing for Real Madrid,” Aguero stated.
“I've never been on the winning side against Real, so I hope we can beat them.”
The 24-year-old is set to make an earlier than expected return for City when they meet Real in a Champions League group stage opener tomorrow night. He has been out since the opening day of the season with a knee injury.
