Strong Real Madrid line-up for Sevilla

Jose Mourinho has reverted to type for Real Madrid’s trip to Sevilla, picking a familiar-looking first XI, including the ‘sad’ Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite watching Luka Modric during the international break and suggesting that Michael Essien could see some game-time on Saturday night, Mourinho has opted for a strong and familiar Real line-up.

The trio of Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Gonzalo Higuain are restored to the attack, alongside Ronaldo, who has faced two weeks of speculation for declaring himself ‘sad’ at the club.

Iker Casillas draws level with Carlos Santillana in the list for all-time League appearances at Real Madrid by starting in goal for his 461st game.

Real Madrid have won their previous two League visits to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan by a 6-2 scoreline, with Ronaldo having netted seven times across those two encounters.

Hosts Sevilla, meanwhile, welcome Hedwiges Maduro to the starting line-up for the first time for the club. The Dutch summer signing suffered a heart scare during pre-season, delaying his involvement with the team. He comes in for Manu del Moral for the only change for Michel Gonzalez’ side.

Sevilla: Palop; Cicinho, Spahic, Botia, Navarro; Maduro, Medel; Navas, Rakitic, Trochowski; Negredo

Real Madrid: Casillas; Arbeloa, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Alonso, Khedira; Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo; Higuain
