Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa says he has mixed emotions going into Sunday’s clash with Rayo Vallecano at the Vicente Calderon.

The Brazilian, 23, spent the latter part of last season on loan at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas after suffering a serious knee injury during pre-season with Atletico, and believes it will be a special match against a club he still has a lot of affection for.

“I still hold a lot of warmth for Rayo,” he told a Press conference. “I arrived there after a very complicated operation and after a long time without playing football.

“The fans took to me and showed me a lot of appreciation so this will be a special game. It will be different.

“Even so, I’m now an Atletico player and I will give my all for this shirt.”

Diego underwent a further operation this summer but feels he is now getting back to something like his best.
“I feel much better but I’m still not back to the level I was before, although I’ll continue to work and try to get back into the boss’s plans

“If I carry on like this then I’m sure I’ll get opportunities to return to the starting line-up.”
