Ronaldo almost left Madrid claim

Cristiano Ronaldo was contemplating leaving Real Madrid on the final day of August after expressing his sadness with the club.

A report in ABC claims the Portuguese star threatened to leave the same day he told President Florentino Perez of his unhappiness and maintained he knew of an offer of €95m for him, the same price Madrid paid to secure his services from Manchester United three years ago.

It also alleges Ronaldo was so upset that directors present were surprised by the player’s assertion that he was ready to depart the Santiago Bernabeu within 24 hours.

The former Manchester United man is understood to have not divulged which club wanted to sign him, although sources believe it would have needed to be one in a country where the transfer window was not yet closed.

This left only two possibilities in Paris Saint-Germain and Anzhi Makhachkala.

Former teammate Lassana Diarra recently joined the Russian outfit on €7m a year, €5m less than Ronaldo receives at Real Madrid, and the mega-riches on offer at Anzhi means a player of Ronaldo’s standing could command a salary far in excess of what he currently earns.
