Ozil: I’m not a machine

Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil says he is ‘a person and not a machine’ in reply to questions over his lack of game time this season.

Ozil is with Germany in Vienna preparing for the World Cup qualifier against Austria but insists he is not unduly worried he and teammate Sami Khedira have been on the bench lately.

“I’m not tired but both myself and Sami know that at Real Madrid you have to press the accelerator during training. I’m a person not a machine,” he told APA agency.

In the meantime, Germany boss Joachim Low had nothing but praise for Ozil and is himself unconcerned both he and Khedira have not had much playing time.

“Ozil is so good with the ball and knows how to get at opponents when he suddenly looks forwards.

“But Real Madrid have a well balanced team and it’s perfectly normal that both of them will not always play,” said Low.
