Roberto Carlos has reassured Real Madrid fans that the reason he is in the Spanish capital at the moment is not to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Madrid, with Russian side Anzhi one of those thought capable of financing a possible bid.
However, even as their sporting director, former Real favourite Carlos, is in Spain at the moment, he has made clear that it isn’t to bid for the Portuguese.
“Many people are asking when are we going to come in for Cristiano, but no,” the former left-back told LigaBBVA’s official website.
“Cristiano is happy here, whilst I am thinking about other players at a different level for next season.
“Here is the best League in the world, with the best Coaches and players.
“At Anzhi we are looking for players who have experience in other countries. We intend to make Anzhi a famous club and one that still has high level players.
“If Cristiano will not celebrate goals, us who watches the games will celebrate them. He should not worry, people love him a lot.
“He should continue as he is, do not worry about anything, the problems will be fixed. Cristiano is a phenomenon.”
Carlos also had some words for Jose Mourinho.
“Madrid has a great Coach. A lot of people criticise him, but he is still winning. This year they can achieve something important. With this team and this Coach, they can do something good.”
