Jose Mourinho has told Cristiano Ronaldo he is a 'special player' following the forward's comments that he is unhappy at the club.
The Real Madrid tactician has spoken at length with the record-breaking goalscorer after he revealed on Sunday that he was 'sad' at Santiago Bernabeu 'and the club know why'.
“You are a major player here,” Mourinho told Ronaldo in a conversation released by Marca. “I have no doubt about that. We have to be clear – you are much appreciated and need to feel loved.
“You have our affection, and we will help you in whatever you need. We'll talk more when you come back [from international duty], but you have to clear – we are here to listen and to help you.”
Reports have been conflicting as to why the 27-year-old is dissatisfied with life in the Spanish capital. Some believe he is upset with the way Los Blancos have treated teammate, and friend, Kaka. Others suggest he is just angling for a better contract.
