Eliseu: Hard to leave Malaga

After helping Malaga defeat Real Zaragoza today, winger Eliseu admitted that he would have found it very hard to have left the club this summer.

The player was heavily linked with a late switch in the window to Benfica, but stayed on and played an important role for the team in today’s away win.

“It was very hard to leave, I talked to the Coach. I am stood here and am very happy to still be helping the team,” Eliseu told reporters after the game.

“It was a very intense couple of days at the club for the interest from Benfica. I wanted to stay here, whilst the Coach would not let me leave.

“Qualifying for the Champions League also made it impossible to leave. You have to be focused on yourself, which is to play football.”

On today’s win at Zaragoza

“The field was very bad, almost impossible. We managed to get three points on this difficult pitch against a difficult team. What mattered most was the three points.

“The team is fine. The summer has been very difficult, we can ask for no more, I think we are doing fine.

“The players are doing their job, we are not preoccupied.”
