Oltra inspired Depor comeback

Midfielder and double-goal-scorer Abel Aguilar has revealed that Coach Jose Luis Oltra’s half-time team-talk inspired Deportivo’s fight back against Valencia.

Depor pushed from 3-1 down at the break at Mestalla to earn a credible 3-3 draw, thanks in part to Aguilar’s two goals, but according to the player, thanks mainly to Oltra.

“He told us that we could not give up on anything, we had to go out and search for the game with great calmness and that whilst we couldn’t concede any more goals, we should have the faith to achieve,” the Colombian told reporters today.

“The point won is very important in terms of how the game went. In the second half we tried to put right some things and the team improved greatly.

“We went out to draw or win the game and that idea is one we should hold on to, it is the way to achieve things.”

Depor are unbeaten from their opening two games, but Aguilar is not getting carried away.

“You have to go game by game, trying to accumulate points, especially at home, where you have to be strong and not drop any.”
