Diego Costa keen to repay Simeone

Diego Costa is delighted to be back at Atletico Madrid and is eager to repay the faith shown in him by Coach Diego Simeone.

The striker impressed in the final stages of last season whilst out on loan with Rayo Vallecano, netting 10 goals from 16 appearances.

Despite a troubled pre-season back at Atleti, the player has been included in Simeone’s plans for 2012-13, something he is delighted about.

“I’m very happy to be among those involved by the Coach, it shows that I have been doing well despite the physical problems I had in pre-season,” he told the Press today.

“We will give our best and hope that this year will be very good for me and for Atletico.

“I am well. Obviously I lack a little physical fitness, but I’m fine to play. I will play the minutes that the Coach requires. I have really been keen to play again.

“Everyone knows how I play, I give everything on the field, I fight, I’m wired in, I hope to have a chance to play.”

Atleti play their first game of the season in front of their own fans on Monday night, as Athletic visit the Calderon.

“The Atletico fans are special, they are the best in Spain. When things are good they encourage you and support you. Hopefully the team will do well and it is possible to convey good feelings to the fans.

“We aim for a good year, in which all our goals are achieved. We enjoy the fans and we want them to have enjoyment from us.

“Athletic are a team that are always tough, they run for 90 minutes, if you’re not focused they will overwhelm you.

“There will be a lot of intensity right from the first minute and throughout the game, we will have to double our efforts to win the game.”
