Song ready to fight at Barca

New Barcelona signing Alex Song has reflected on the ‘dream’ that is joining the Catalans and is ready for the fight for a starting shirt.

The Cameroonian international completed a €19m transfer from Arsenal earlier today after undergoing medical examinations and signing a five-year contract.

Before being presented to the fans at the ground tonight for the Joan Gamper Trophy, Song spoke to the Press.

“I am happy to be here, because everyone knows that Barca is the best team in the world. To join this team is fantastic,” he enthused.

“I’ve always wanted to play for Barca and to play with the best players in the world, Cesc Fabregas, Messi, Iniesta…and I’m so happy to be here. Today is a great day for me and my family.

“I’ve not spoken to Tito Vilanova yet, but I have spoken with the President and Andoni Zubizarreta.

“I have high hopes and I’ll talk to Tito tonight. I will be very happy to start work.”

The player is aware of the competition for places in midfield and the fight he faces.

“I want to fight for a place in the team. I think that the team will win because it is a great team, they have already won everything. I want to put in the effort and give everything in training.”

The midfielder is reunited with former Arsenal teammate Fabregas.

“I know Cesc very well, in fact I stayed at his house last night and he told me a bit about life at Barcelona. I think that he will help me a lot. It is good to have a friend at the team.”
