Celtic star interesting Atletico

Atletico Madrid are chasing Celtic midfielder Ki-Sung Yeung, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Los Rojiblancos’ boss Diego Simeone was alerted to the 23-year-old South Korean international after he turned in some impressive displays at the London Olympics, where his country reached the semi-finals.

Simeone is on the lookout for a creative midfielder to fill the void left by Diego’s return to Wolfsburg following his season-long loan at the Vicente Calderon, and sees Ki as fitting the bill.

However, a stumbling block to any move could be the price tag the Glasgow giants have put on the player, understood to be around €7m.

Ki has a contract with Celtic until 2014 and Hoops boss Neil Lennon, aware of the recent interest, does not want to lose someone he considers a vital part of the set-up at Parkhead.

“If anyone wants him they will have to pay a good fee for him.

“I’ve had no contact with anyone – I don’t know if [chief executive] Peter Lawwell has – but it wouldn’t surprise me if there were a few clubs interested with his contract situation being as it is.

“I haven’t seen Ki in a month so I don’t know what he’s thinking.

“Hopefully when I see him, which hopefully will be on Sunday, he can let me know what he’s thinking.”

Ki has been given extra time off after the Olympics and a number of other clubs are also said to be interested, with Arsenal, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers all believed to have had him watched.
