Falcao: Levante is biggest game

Radamel Falcao believes that the UEFA Super Cup won’t mean a thing if Atletico Madrid don’t win their first two League games, starting with Levante.

Atleti face Chelsea for the European trophy at the end of this month, but not before opening their League campaign with a trip to Levante and a home tie with Athletic Bilbao.

For Falcao, the message is clear – the Rojiblancos can only look at the calendar game by game.

“As a collective we will have to game by game. With Levante it is the most important game we have. If we get a good result, we will be filled with confidence and drive to continue in the League. And then, personally, I always challenge myself to improve upon previous seasons.

“Last year was a positive one. I think it was an important step in my career to come to the Spanish League and to Atletico Madrid. And then I have collected the Europa League. I am very happy here and I hope that this season is better.”

The striker then focused on the mood going into the new campaign, and the UEFA Super Cup clash on the horizon.

“We know more. I think that the work of last season will help us a lot. The important thing is to have the same set-up that we’ve previously had  and surely the results will come, but we have to also have the mindset that we need much effort so as to deliver this.

“The Super Cup against Chelsea has no focus for us if the results before that are not what we expect. We’re very focused on Levante and Athletic Bilbao. If we get good results, we will be in much better shape for that game.

“However, it’s a title that a player can add and above all it generates a prestige. I could not play last year and this is an opportunity.”
