Real Madrid thrash Milan 5-1

Real Madrid turned on an impressive display in the Yankee Stadium on Wednesday to thrash Milan 5-1 in the World Club Challenge.

The Spanish champions took the game to the Serie A side from the outset and took the lead on 25 minutes when Angel Di Maria crashed home from the edge of the box after the Italians had failed to clear a corner.

However, Milan drew level just eight minutes later when Brazilian international Robinho took advantage of Antonio Nocerino’s through-ball to poke home.

Madrid restored their advantage five minutes after the restart, Lassana Diarra picking out Cristiano Ronaldo who made no mistake as he fired home a left-footed shot.

Ronaldo got in on the act again on 66 minutes, this time after good work from Gonzalo Higuain and Kaka, the latter threading the ball through for the Portuguese international to finish with aplomb for Madrid’s third.

Sergio Ramos made it 4-1 with a header from a corner 10 minutes from time and Jose Callejon rounded off a great night for Los Blancos with the fifth on 88 minutes.
