Real Madrid kicked off a four-game tour of the United States with an easy 5-1 victory over Los Angeles Galaxy at the Home Depot Center.
A record 30,317 crowd saw Gonzalo Higuain put the Spanish champions ahead after just 85 seconds when he took advantage of an Angel Di Maria cross to fire past goalkeeper Josh Saunders.
The visitors doubled the advantage 10 minutes later through Di Maria, who cut inside from the right and unleashed a left-footed shot that gave Saunders no chance.
Brazilian defender David Junior Lope got the Major League Soccer outfit back into the game on 23 minutes, slotting home after former Madrid man David Beckham had curled a free-kick into the box that Omar Gonzalez nodded across goal.
However, Jose Mourinho’s side restored the two-goal cushion after 36 minutes after Gonzalo Higuain’s defence-splitting pass had set him free down the left, although Galaxy striker Robbie Keane had two good to chances to have reduced the arrears before the break.
Both teams changed their entire line-up for the second half with the Spaniards bringing on some of their biggest stars – including Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Karim Benzema – and Alvaro Morata made it 4-1 on 49 minutes with an emphatic finish following a superb pass from Esteban Granero.
Jese then added a fifth six minutes from time and Ronaldo had a shot cleared off the line by Tommy Meyer minutes later as Madrid got their pre-season preparations off to a flying start.
Los Blancos will now face Mexican champions Santos Laguna in Las Vegas on Sunday before heading east for games against Milan at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday and Glasgow Celtic in Philadelphia on August 11.
