Benfica duo join Depor

Deportivo de La Coruna have confirmed the signings of Benfica pair Nelson Oliveira and Roderick Miranda.

Depor boss Jose Luis Oltra has been searching for a couple of players to bolster his team on their return to the top flight after a one-year absence, and the new men will be unveiled at Riazor on Tuesday evening.

Striker Oliveira, who will be 21 next week, was a member of the Portuguese squad that took part in the recent European Championships in Poland and Ukraine, despite not scoring a League goal for the Lisbon club last season, and has seven international appearances under his belt.

Roderick, a 21-year-old central defender, spent last term on loan to Swiss club Servette – coached by former Benfica player Joao Alves – and has made just five League starts in his time at the Estadio Da Luz.

Meanwhile, midfielder Juan Carlos Valeron has asked for calm after the club’s 4-1 friendly defeat to Sporting Gijon.

The veteran 37-year-old reacted to fans’ concerns after Depor had been completely outplayed by Sporting in the Trofeo Emma Cuervo, played at Lugo’s Pepe Barrera de Ribadeo Stadium in front of 3,000 spectators.

“We must not be nervous. Nobody likes losing, even a pre-season game, but we must try to improve as we continue to adjust to things,” Valeron told a Press conference.

“These things happen in football. One day you can win and think things are going well, then you lose and realise there are things to improve upon.

“We must not give too much importance to one or the other and if we work hard enough we’ll get better and better for the season’s opening game, which is important.”
