Tito: Messi still the difference

Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova says Lionel Messi still makes the difference after the Argentine’s hat-trick on Saturday.

Vilanova saw his team cruise to an 8-0 win over Raja Casablanca at the Grand Stade Tanger in Morocco, with Messi on the mark three times, and maintained that the world’s arguably greatest player is still the difference for any team.

“When you have the best player in the world, with his scoring ability, he is often the difference and he has shown this once again,” the new Barca boss told a Press conference.

The game in Morocco was La Blaugrana’s second pre-season friendly following the 2-1 victory in Hamburg earlier in the week, and Vilanova believed it served as a good workout for his players and he also praised the younger members of his squad.

“They always do well for us and played to a very high standard,” he said. Asked about the imminent return of David Villa, whose return from six months on the sidelines has been pencilled in for next week’s friendly with Manchester United, Vilanova was optimistic.

“We are talking about a serious injury and he has been out a long time. “When he is fit we will be happy to have him back and he has made great strides in the last month,” he replied.
