Midfielder Diego says Atletico Madrid fans never cease to amaze him after an amazing show of support via social network Twitter.
The Brazilian midfielder spent last season on loan at the Vicente Calderon, helping the club to Europa League success and the European places, yet his hopes of a return to the club appear to have been damaged by a row over an unpaid bonus.
The 27-year-old denounced Atleti for alleged non-payment of a bonus due to every squad member, although it had already been agreed it would be paid over the summer, and was later forced to withdraw the claim after the money arrived on time.
However, rather than turn against the former Juventus, Werder Bremen and Porto player, fans have left messages of support.
“The Atletico fans never cease to amaze me. I just read the tweets! Thanks for caring so much!” tweeted Diego in response.
“When it’s the right time I will tell you all what actually happened. A big hug to Atletico Madrid fans.”
