Cristiano Ronaldo has allegedly let down thousands of fans with his non-appearance at the opening of a discotheque on the Algarve.
A report in Sport claims Ronaldo was due to appear on Friday night at the unveiling of the Seven club in Vilamoura – a nightspot dedicated to the Real Madrid star – alongside several of his clubmates and selected Portuguese media.
However, the alarm bells started ringing when the player’s mother Dolores Aveiro, accompanied by his sisters Elma and Katia, stated that the presence of her son was not assured.
“Perhaps he will be here in a short while, a little later,” Dolores told agitated staff.
Nonetheless, neither Cristiano nor any other Madrid player showed up and it later transpired that he was in Italy at a commercial event, with reports later claiming he was advised not to appear so as not to be labelled a night owl and tarnish his image.
