Coentrao: I will return to Benfica

Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao has said in an interview with O Jogo that he will return to former club Benfica one day.

“Benfica is the club I love, the club of my heart, and I would like to go back there in the future, before I reach 30 and while I am still fresh, not when I am nearing the end of my career. I want to help the club,” declared the 24-year-old.

Coentrao, who signed for Madrid last summer from the Portuguese giants in a €30m deal and helped Los Blancos to the La Liga title, did not hide where his allegiances lie when commenting on Benfica’s prospects for the forthcoming season.

“We have great quality and this year is going to be Benfica’s year,” said Coentrao.

“Reinforcements will arrive without a doubt and that will help us regain the title.”

Coentrao joined Benfica from Rio Ave in 2007 and went out on loan to both Nacional and Real Zaragoza before establishing himself at the Estadio Da Luz.
