Official: Topal joins Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce have announced via their official website that they have completed the €4.5m signing of Valencia midfielder Mehmet Topal.

The 23-year-old returns to the country of his birth after two years at the Mestalla following a €5.5m move from Fenerbahce’s great rivals Galatasaray and has signed a four-year deal.

Turkish international Topal did not live up to expectations at Valencia, having scored just one goal in 43 League appearances and failing to secure a regular starting place in former boss Unai Emery’s line-up.

However, on arrival in Istanbul he declared himself very happy at going back to the Super Lig with Fenerbahce, where he will replace midfielder Emre Belozoglu who moved to Atletico Madrid last month.

“I am very excited and happy,” said Topal. “No words can describe how big Fenerbahce are and I'm proud to be a part of this club.

“I want to show my gratitude to the Fenerbahce fans. They have not shown any animosity towards me.

“I will do everything to deserve this shirt and will fight to be accepted by them.”
