Barca wait for Liverpool’s Cillessen bid

Barcelona are preparing themselves for a Liverpool bid for out-of-favour goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, according to reports in the Spanish press.

The Dutch international has been linked with moves to the Merseyside club and Chelsea all summer, with his current deal at the Camp Nou running through to 2021 and containing a reported €60m release clause.

El Mundo Deportivo say the beaten Champions League finalists are confident of landing the shot-stopper in a €30m deal, driven by concerns on current number one Loris Karius.

The German made two high-profile errors in the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid and has not impressed in pre-season friendlies against Chester City and Tranmere Rovers.

Cillessen, 29, joined Barca from Ajax in 2016 but has struggled to dislodge Marc-Andre Ter Stegen from the number one spot and has made just two La Liga appearances across two seasons.

Last month, the goalkeeper said: “I think that I played well in the matches I had in the Copa del Rey.

“I need to wait patiently. The only thing I know is that Barcelona won't sell me.

“Arsenal and Liverpool aren't bad clubs but if Barcelona say, 'We love you,' then I'll accept their decision and continue there.

“I'll wait until we return on July 16 to see what they've decided. I don't know anything. If the club wants to keep me, I'll accept that. I signed a five-year deal with them.”
