Valencia suffer Guedes blow

Valencia have been dealt a blow with the news that Goncalo Guedes faces a month out with a broken toe.

Guedes completed Valencia’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona on Sunday, but a medical report on his club’s official website confirmed he would undergo surgery on Monday after he suffered “a stress fracture in a toe on his right foot” before the match.

Consequently, the Portuguese winger is expected to be out for “3-4 weeks”, leaving him at risk of missing the remainder of 2017.

“Guedes has a stress fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his foot,” explained Valencia assistant Ruben Uria after the game.

“In order to prevent it from breaking completely, he’ll be operated on and he’ll be with us again in three or four weeks.”

The 20-year-old has played a key role in Los Che’s unbeaten start to the season, chipping in with three goals and five assists since arriving on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Valencia also confirmed Ezequiel Garay would be examined on Monday after the defender was taken off against Barca with rib pain.
