Real Madrid have confirmed that Sergio Ramos broke his nose during Saturday’s goalless Derbi with Atletico Madrid.

Marca cites confirmation from Madrid that Ramos “fractured his nasal septum” after a kick in the face from Lucas Hernandez towards the end of the first half.

The defender quickly needed treatment as his nose began bleeding heavily, and despite seeing out the remaining minutes, he was replaced by Nacho Fernandez during the break.

His nostrils were seen to have been plugged with cotton wool, while his nose was visibly swollen.

Former FIFA referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez told AS that a penalty should have been awarded to Madrid for Lucas’ kick on the 31-year-old.
