Jose Mourinho admits it is “mission impossible” for Manchester United to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid this summer.
United were immediately made favourites to sign Ronaldo in wake of his ‘irreversible decision’ to leave Madrid earlier in the summer.
However, the speculation has since died down, leading Mourinho to accept he will not reunite with his fellow Portuguese at Old Trafford.
“I’m not going to get my club to waste time on players who are mission impossible,” he was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
“Ronaldo is such an important player for his club. A player of great economic power.
“We have not been able to find any reason that could have made us think that Ronaldo could leave.”
