Madrid offer Zidane extension?

Real Madrid have reportedly offered Coach Zinedine Zidane a contract extension until 2020, regardless of his performance this season.

According to Marca, tying Zidane down for the long haul is President Florentino Perez’s “aspiration” and the renewal will be signed “whenever the Frenchman wants”.

However, nothing is likely to be formalised until after June 3, when Madrid take on Juventus in the Champions League final.

Zidane’s current deal expires at the end of next season, but Marca notes he is “the living image of a happy ‘madridismo’, which identifies with their Coach in a way that has been rarely seen in recent years.”

Furthermore, there is “total and absolute confidence” in the trainer, with the newspaper also citing parallels between him and Jose Mourinho, who penned a new contract just days after he won La Liga with Los Blancos in 2012.

A former Madrid midfielder, Zidane replaced Rafa Benitez in January 2016 and guided the Spaniard’s misfiring troops to Champions League glory four months later.

He has since added a European Super Cup and Club World Cup to his trophy haul, while he is three victories away from the League title and one from ‘La Duodecima’.
