Sergio Ramos dedicated his winner for Real Madrid against Real Betis on Sunday to his wife and urged fans to show Keylor Navas “love”.
Ramos rescued Madrid yet again as his 10th goal of the season secured a 2-1 victory over Betis, which moved Los Blancos back to the top of La Liga.
“It was a strange game,” he said after the game.
“The team did some good things, Betis defended well and the few chances we had, we didn’t take them.
“It was a race against time in the end, but it was important to win so we could become leaders.
“Another winning goal? In football, what counts are the results. It’s true that we have to get used to playing a bit better so our fans can enjoy this sport.
“I’m happy about scoring again. I dedicate it to my wife, who says that I don’t dedicate any.”
Ramos’ header was preceded by another Navas blunder, the goalkeeper allowing Antonio Sanabria’s shot to squirm through his gloves.
“It’s a very complicated stadium to play at, the level of demand is infinite,” added the centre-back.
“When players mess up, they need love. Keylor saved us with a stop that would’ve drawn Betis level and I’m glad he recovered a bit.”
