‘Cristiano will always make difference’

Zinedine Zidane has come out in defence of Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Real Madrid's match with Malaga.

The Portuguese forward's recent performances for Los Blancos have been the subject of criticism from some quarters, with the European champions having lost their last two fixtures.

However, ahead of Saturday's Primera Liga game at the Bernabeu, the French Coach insisted his star man is unmoved by his detractors.

"The good thing is that we have another match after two defeats," Zidane commented at a Press conference. "We are not going to change the idea we have.

"Cristiano will always have critics. When he doesn't score, when he plays in a different position, he is used to that.

"He is focused like everyone else on the next match. He will always be the player who makes the difference for this team.

"Sometimes he can play worse, it happened to me. So what? The important thing is to continue working."

Ronaldo was deployed in the 'Number 9' role during Wednesday night's Copa del Rey defeat to Celta Vigo, a position Zidane admits is not his best.

"That's where he played the other day, we thought it was fine with Asensio on the wing. He can do that but we think his best position is on the left, as it always has been and that will not change.

"This is football, you cannot win every game. Like in life.

"In my mind there is only work, thinking about things we could do better. We need to have more concentration, I am not worried."

The Madrid boss was then asked whether he was feeling any pressure following back-to-back losses against Sevilla and Celta.

"There is pressure on me, but there was when I signed with this club. I will always have pressure on me, until the last day I am here.

"It makes me grow stronger every day."

Despite their recent struggles, Los Blancos have an opportunity to open up a four point gap at the top of La Liga when they face Malaga on Saturday afternoon.

"I have seen a lot of Malaga matches on video. The results have not been positive for them but that doesn't mean anything.

"They are an organised team who know how to play, but we have to worry about ourselves."
