Ramos: I didn’t deserve own goal

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos claims he did not deserve his own goal against Sevilla on Sunday as “it was just one of those things”.

Ramos’ late header provided the cue for Stevan Jovetic to end Madrid’s 40-game unbeaten run in a 2-1 victory for Sevilla over Los Blancos, but the defender was adamant he had one of his best games at Sanchez Pizjuan.

“I haven’t seen the [own goal],” he said after the match.

“When we win, we all win, and when we lose, it’s the same thing. We weren’t able to kill the game off.

“This stadium is always very difficult to play at. I’m proud of our game. We didn’t have control of the last few minutes, Sevilla pushed up, but we’re still at the top and we have to keep moving forward.

“We didn’t relax, we weren’t able to control parts of the game… But hey, we’ll keep our heads held high.

“Reception from the fans? When I got onto the pitch, I tried to ignore it.

“My own goal was just one of those things. It was one of my best games here with Real Madrid.

“3-5-2? It didn’t come as a surprise. It was a system different to the one we’re accustomed to, but it worked well, if we had won, the analyses would’ve been different. It more than worked.

“Sampaoli? He’s a great Coach, he showed it with Chile. I wish him well.

“Sevilla in the title race? Sevilla had a great first round, so they’re candidates.

“Doubts after the defeat? We’ll turn the page. Now we must think about Celta.”
