‘We tried our best’, admits Lucas

Lucas Hernandez was happy with Atletico Madrid player’s performances despite losing 1-0 away to Bayern Munich in their final Champions League group game.

Robert Lewandowski’s first-half free-kick was enough to end Los Rojiblancos 100% group record but was too late from stopping Diego Simeone’s side from topping the group.

"We tried our best right to the end, but it wasn't to be," the 20-year-old told BeIN Sports after the full-time whistle.

"We were up against a great opponent, we have to keep doing what we're doing because we're on the right path.

"On an individual level I felt good, to play 94 minutes with teammates who gave everything they had is an honour for me."

It was Lucas’ sixth match of the season for Atleti, filling in at left-back for the injured Filipe Luis.
