Zidane chooses Navas over De Gea

Real Madrid will not pursue Manchester United’s David De Gea after Zinedine Zidane decided to keep faith in Keylor Navas.

Marca claims Madrid are backing Zidane’s call to pass on the Spain international, Zizou having been impressed by Navas’ performances since he replaced Rafa Benitez as Coach in January.

De Gea was a year ago close to quitting Old Trafford for Santiago Bernabeu, with Navas going the other way, until the transfer broke down in the final minutes of the summer transfer window.

Jose Mourinho would this summer have made it difficult for De Gea to leave United but with Zidane giving his backing to Navas, and Madrid having met with De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes and told him their goalkeeping options were settled, the decision has been made, Zidane preferring continuity where possible.
