Atletico Madrid captain Gabi believes Atletico Madrid deserved victory over Real Madrid in Saturday’s Madrid derby.
Antoine Griezmann scored the only goal of the game after speaking after the final whistle, Gabi praised his teammates.
“The team played the game they had to play, with hope and compact at the back,” he said, AS reports.
“I think it’s a deserved victory. We all work for the same thing. The Coach prepares the game very well. We’ve shown we want to be up there.
“This team is able to play against the big teams and we have shown that again.
“We trust Griezmann. He always works for the team and his effort is unquestionable.
“The calendar? We played today and we have another game on Tuesday. There’s no excuses.
“Madrid are a great team. It was a close game but we managed to win.
“It’s difficult to catch Barcelona but we’ll fight as long as there are points at stake. It will be hard without Barca losing points.”
